There are many types of pipes, which can be divided into many types according to different classification standards (such as material, purpose, conveying medium, etc.). The following introduces 5 typical types of pipes from the perspective of common materials and uses:
一、Metal pipeline: steel pipe
Features: high strength, good toughness, strong pressure resistance, can withstand high fluid pressure and temperature, suitable for conveying a variety of media.
Classification:
Seamless steel pipe: made of a whole piece of metal, without welds, commonly used in high-pressure pipelines (such as long-distance natural gas pipelines, industrial high-pressure fluid transportation).
Welded steel pipe: formed by welding, low cost, suitable for low-pressure transportation scenarios such as water, gas, steam, etc. (such as building water supply and drainage, heating pipelines).

Common types: PVC (polyvinyl chloride) pipes, PP-R pipes, HDPE pipes, etc.
1. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) pipes
① Material properties
Made of polyvinyl chloride resin with stabilizers, plasticizers, etc., divided into hard (PVC-U) and soft (PVC hose) types.
Resistant to chemical corrosion such as acid and alkali, light weight, convenient construction (can be bonded or threaded).
Temperature resistance range (-15℃~60℃), easy to release harmful substances at high temperature, not suitable for hot water transportation.
② Application scenarios
Construction field: indoor cold water supply and drainage, bathroom drainage pipes (PVC-U drainage pipes account for more than 70% of the market share).
Municipal engineering: underground drainage network, rainwater pipes (usually φ16-630mm in diameter).
Agriculture/electricity: irrigation water pipelines, wire and cable protective casings (such as PVC corrugated pipes).
2. PP-R (random copolymer polypropylene) pipes
① Material properties
Made from random copolymer polypropylene by extrusion, the molecular structure is regular, and it has good heat resistance and creep resistance.
It has a wide temperature resistance range (0℃~95℃) and can transport hot water for a long time (95℃ water temperature can be used for 50 years under rated pressure).
It is hygienic and non-toxic, suitable for drinking water transportation, and the inner wall is smooth and not easy to scale.
The hot melt connection has strong sealing performance, and the interface strength is higher than the pipe itself.
② Application scenarios
Home decoration field: indoor hot and cold water pipes (such as kitchen and bathroom waterway renovation, with a market share of over 80%).
Commercial buildings: centralized hot water supply systems for hotels and office buildings.
Industrial scenarios: pure water delivery pipelines in food processing and medical industries.
3. HDPE (High-density polyethylene) pipes
① Material properties
High-density polyethylene molecular chains are tightly arranged and have high crystallinity
Strong impact resistance (remains tough under -40℃~60℃ environment), suitable for underground laying (can withstand soil pressure).
Resistant to chemical corrosion (resistant to acid, alkali, and salt solutions), often used to transport corrosive media.
Long service life (up to 50 years or more under buried conditions), low friction coefficient (low water flow resistance).
Note: Hot-melt connection has high process requirements and can be electrofused.
② Application scenarios
Municipal engineering:
Buried water supply pipelines (usually φ16-1200mm in diameter, such as PE water supply pipes).
Sewage and gas transmission pipelines.
Agriculture/environmental protection: farmland irrigation (drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation system), landfill anti-seepage lining pipes.
三、Composite pipe: steel-plastic composite pipe
Features: Combining the strength of metal pipes and the corrosion resistance of plastic pipes, the inner layer is plastic (such as PE, PPR) and the outer layer is steel.
Application scenarios:
Drinking water transportation (avoid metal rust and water pollution).
Transport of media with corrosion resistance requirements in the chemical and food industries.
四、 Concrete pipe: reinforced concrete pipe
Features: high compressive strength, aging resistance, low cost, but heavy and difficult to construct.
Application scenarios:

五、Flexible pipe: rubber hose
Features: good flexibility, bendable, vibration-resistant, and can adapt to complex installation environments, but pressure resistance and corrosion resistance vary depending on the material.
