About the application of PVC pipes in water supply projects

Definition and material: PVC water supply pipe is a water supply pipe made of sanitary grade polyvinyl chloride resin as the main raw material, with a certain amount of stabilizers, lubricants, fillers, color enhancers, etc. added. It is extruded by a plastic extruder and injection molded by an injection molding machine, and produced through processes such as cooling, curing, shaping, inspection, and packaging.

Features

Strong Corrosion Resistance: PVC pipes offer excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, and chemicals, resisting corrosion from a wide range of chemicals. Suitable for use in harsh environments, they effectively extend pipe life and reduce maintenance costs.

High Mechanical Strength: Rigid PVC pipes possess excellent tensile and compressive strength, capable of withstanding certain external forces and pressures. By adjusting the formulation and production process, their strength and toughness can be further enhanced to meet the pipe strength requirements of various building structures.

Excellent Fluid Transport Performance: The inner wall of PVC pipes is very smooth, with low surface roughness, creating low resistance to fluid flow. This allows water to maintain a high flow rate within the pipes, reducing energy loss, improving water delivery efficiency, and lowering operating costs. PVC pipes are also less susceptible to scaling, contributing to long-term stable pipe operation.

Significant Cost Advantages: PVC pipes are made from a wide variety of raw materials, making them relatively inexpensive. Furthermore, their light weight makes them easy to transport and install, reducing labor intensity and manpower costs during construction, resulting in a low overall cost.

Specifications: PVC water supply pipes are available in sizes including Φ20, Φ25, Φ32, Φ40, Φ50, Φ63, Φ75, Φ90, Φ110, Φ125, Φ140, Φ160, Φ180, Φ200, Φ225, Φ250, Φ280, Φ315, Φ355, Φ400, Φ450, Φ500, Φ630, Φ720, and Φ800. Nominal pressures are specified in five different ranges: 0.63MPa, 0.8MPa, 1.0MPa, 1.25MPa, and 1.6MPa. Each pressure range has a corresponding minimum pipe diameter. For example, the minimum diameter for 0.63MPa pipe is 63mm. Pipe lengths are generally 4m, 6m, or 8m, but can also be determined through negotiation between the supplier and the buyer.

Connection Methods: Common connection methods include socket-and-socket, adhesive bonding, and flange connections. Socket-and-socket connections are suitable for small and medium-diameter pipes, offering the advantages of simple installation and excellent sealing. Adhesive bonding is suitable for low-pressure piping systems and is easy to operate, but requires careful attention to joint cleanliness and sealing. Flange connections are suitable for large-diameter pipes and applications requiring frequent installation and disassembly.

Applications: These include indoor water supply and reclaimed water systems in residential and industrial buildings; buried water supply systems in residential communities and industrial areas; urban water supply piping systems; water treatment plant piping systems; marine aquaculture; garden irrigation, well drilling, and other industrial pipe applications.

Construction Precautions

Pipeline Installation: During pipeline laying, a certain slope must be maintained to prevent water accumulation or poor drainage due to an improper slope, which could affect water supply. Additionally, avoid external forces from squeezing or impacting the pipe during installation. In particular, use fine soil or gravel when backfilling to prevent rocks or heavy objects from damaging the pipe, causing leakage or breakage.

Joint Preparation: When connecting sockets and spigots, ensure the joints are clean and free of impurities. After connection, check for looseness. When gluing, use specialized PVC glue and allow the glue to cure for a period of time before performing a water pressure test to prevent leakage. When connecting flanges, use appropriate sealing gaskets to ensure no risk of leakage.

Temperature and Pressure Control: PVC pipes have limited temperature resistance and are generally suitable for transporting water at room temperature. Excessively high temperatures may cause pipe deformation or reduce pressure-bearing capacity. During construction, pay special attention to the ambient temperature to avoid the effects of extreme heat on pipe performance.
